Carl is a registered Professional Engineer and a graduate of the University of Alberta, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Master of Engineering degree in Geotechnical Engineering.  With 25 years of geotechnical engineering experience in British Columbia, Carl has expanded his expertise in site investigation and foundation design to address the specific challenges presented by the local geologic and seismic conditions.

Carl has provided geotechnical services for a wide range of engineering projects of all sizes, from small building expansions and forensic reviews to mid-sized commercial, residential, and industrial developments, to large-scale industrial projects.  Past projects include office business parks, residential facilities, warehouses, schools, municipal works such as underground utilities and multi-use pathways, and industrial facilities.  In recent years, Carl has provided geotechnical engineering and project management for several major projects, including expansion at a port material handling and loading facility, the role of geotechnical Engineer-of-Record for a major petrochemical expansion project in Burnaby, and a role as a geotechnical lead for a major bridge replacement project underway in the Lower Mainland.

Carl joined Active Earth in 2021 and is working with the Geotechnical Team in expanding the services provided on both geotechnical and multi-disciplinary projects.

In his free time, Carl enjoys outdoor activities that include “mud races” and cross-country races, spending time with his teenage daughter, and travelling to new and exciting places around the world.
